As a hotel manager in a fast paced work environment, often times I require the ability to make price adjustments on the fly. I needed a property management software system that would provide flexible pricing options and price adjustment functionality. One of the reasons I invested in ResortPRO property management software solutions is because they offered just that.
I have become fond of the predefined discounts that accommodate most of my price adjustment needs. For example, I created a fifteen percent group discount that I can easily apply to any reservation that is part of a group. I also created a twenty dollar make good discount to remedy most minor issues for our guests. I have created most of the discounts that I typically deal with but if I missed any a predefined discount can be created on the fly as well. For example, if I wanted to apply an early departure discount because somebody had an emergency and had to check out two nights early, and I didn’t have that discount yet, I could create it in less than one minute and then apply the discount to that reservation. My previous property management software system only allowed the discounts to be applied during the reservation making process. As it should be I am now applying discounts before or after the reservation was made.
The other day I wanted to refund the first night on a five night reservation, the predefined discounts were not right for this situation. I considered my other price adjustment options. I could have handled this discount in a few different ways. I could have applied a folio item that would have adjusted the bottom line cost on the reservation. This adjustment, I decided was better suited for other situations like a towel fee or a sunset cruise. Finally I decided that the ‘change rates’ function was ideal for this scenario. ResortPRO allowed me to change rates by adjusting the actual nightly rate itself. The system allowed me to specifically adjust the first nights rate to zero. I also had the option to change the rate for additional nights or specific taxes and fees.
ResortPRO’s price adjustment functionality in the system is terrific. It has given our hotel many different methods to handle an assortment of unpredictable adjustment scenarios. Whether it is predefined discounts, changing rates, or folio items our company now has all the needed software capabilities imaginable.
